A Spotted Dress

Alert! Alert! It was in the 60's in Houston this morning, hallelujah! Cold front, I hope you're here to stay.

I wore my LOFT leopard print dress today. This is the one that I ordered in three sizes before I finally got one that fit. This dress fits large, so size down. I can only wear it with flats or tights, but that's alright. I ended up going with the small tall which is still a little loose in the waist, but for this style/silhouette, I think it's better that it has a little wiggle room.

I really love the feel of this fabric--- it's stretchy and a nice, medium weight. The color and print is also spot-on (no pun intended) and I got so many compliments on it today.

I'd Rather Be in Scrubs...

Dressing for this office isn't always fun. There, I said it. Sometimes, I look at the doctors and nurses in their scrubs and I think to myself "yes." Yes to all of that.

Yes to wearing the same, comfy thing everyday and not asking myself when the last time I wore that dress was or having moments where I come to the realization that I've worn the same pair of pants three days in a row.

Yes to never wearing heels, ever, and instead having an awesome collection of brightly colored running shoes.

I definitely feel a sense of burnout sometimes coming up with new outfits. I'll have one week where I love getting dressed each morning and try to come up with new outfit combos, and others where I throw on a "uniform" and call it a day.

It hasn't helped that we are in between seasons right now in stores and nothing is really giving me that "must have it in my closet" feeling. Hopefully as new fall styles roll in, I'll be re-inspired.

Today I mixed two navy and white prints- stripes and polka dots. It's an easy way to add some playfulness to a simple outfit.

I also have to share these gorgeous studs I purchased from Kendra Scott---they're the same yellow I incorporated into my new blog design!
LOVE them! If you sign up for emails, you can get 15% off of your purchase, which is what I did. Happy shopping!

A Jeweled Collar

Did y'all know that J.Crew changed the design of their No. 2 pencil skirt? What the heck! Aside from the fact that they wrinkle like crazy from sitting/general wear, they are nearly perfect in terms of fit. Now, to be fair, I haven't tried the new style on, so I could very well like them as much or more, but the feedback I've gotten so far has not been positive. It made me thankful to own the original version of this skirt in an embarrassing amount of colors.

Yesterday I paired it with a J.Crew factory jeweled-collar blouse. I love the feminine detail of the ruffled and embellished collar.

Before I go, I wanted to share the one item I picked up from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale--and it's these gorgeous faux calf hair, leopard-print heels by Halogen. I love the lower heel and that the print is calf hair, I always think that looks more expensive when the shoe has an animal print. They fit great and are on sale right now for $59.90! You can buy them here.

A Coral Dress

Coral is a color I don't own a ton ofin fact, I think I have one J.Crew pencil skirt in that color. So when I saw this dress at Gap and tried it on, I knew I had to have it (it's also on sale for less than $40 right now!)

Not only does it have a beautiful full skirt, which I've been loving lately, it is so airy and comfortable. I'm planning to add about 2 inches of length to the hem but other than that it's perfect. The dress is actually a tall, but you would never know it since it's not as long as a tall typically is.

For work, I paired it with my navy blue blazer from Artizia, but I didn't show that in these photos since it's blazing hot out and I didnt wear the blazer until I was in the office.

The [Top] Top

When we were in Toronto, I didn't buy many things for myself. I always enjoy shopping at Yorkdale but I didn't find too much I wanted the day we went. However, I did pick up this gorgeous top from Zara which is quickly becoming my most favorite top of the summer.

First of all, the pattern is lovely and secondly the detail on the sleeves is really the perfect touch. I don't own anything similar either. I think this works well tucked into a skirt and also left untucked with pants. It can also be dressed up or down.

The Pom Pom Scarf

When I posted this selfie of Harper and me on Instagram today, a lot of you asked about my pretty scarf so I thought I'd share my outfit.
The scarf was actually a birthday gift from Megan and it couldn't be more me! I absolutely love the colors and the navy blue pom pom trim is the perfect touch that makes it feel special and different. Today I paired it with a crisp white linen dress.

A Floral Blouse

When this J.Crew blouse first appeared online and in stores, I loved it so much that I bought it even though I was about 8 months pregnant. I knew I would regret not buying it and I was right! I really love the unique print and fun, bright colors on this top. I gravitate a lot towards emerald/bright greens so I knew my closet had to have this.

Though J.Crew no longer carries it, J.Crew Factory introduced it this season (yay!) and it can be yours for just $37 (on sale!) I think this top pairs well with both prints and solids, so pretty versatile!

Bold Blue Stripes

I'm really glad I ended up keeping this Banana Republic half-sleeve striped dress. It's very comfortable and I love the bold stripes against the crisp white. I wore it with flats because I think the length is not a good one for heels and I did notice today that there is at least an inch to an inch-and-a-half of fabric in the hem and I may take it to the tailor to have it taken out.  While this dress certainly isn't revealing and I feel comfortable in it, I prefer a longer hemline when possible.

A Timeless Dress

I haven't purchased anything at Club Monaco in a few years now (their prices seem to have skyrocketed from what they used to be), but one piece I will always return to is this simple button-front dress (which I also own in white, my favorite of the two).

It's so easy to wear, has a nice full skirt and looks great belted too. I purchased this dress several years ago and I still find myself reaching for it.

Recent Outfits...

My love for pants continues to growand grow and grow. Here are a few recently worn outfits, including today's!

shirt- gap (on sale!!!)  |  pants- j.crew  |  shoes- nine west  | necklace- ? TheModernSiren

A note about the shirt--- it's a stunning pinkish/neon lilac color and I got a size medium tall. It's a little too big on me but it was sold out in size small tall and I tried it on in store in the regular length and it was a no-go. Maybe it will shrink a bit when I wash it. Overall though, the fit is good and I don't mind if it's a teeny bit loose. I also wore a blazer over this shirt at work but didn't wear it for the photos.

Bows

Today I wore my favorite skirt and a navy blue blouse with anchors that I scored at Marshalls while I was on maternity leave. The tights look light in the bottom right photo, but in person they are actually a nice deep navy with black polka dots and don't read as blue as they do in the photo. I got a lot of compliments on them today...note to self...more printed tights!  They just add an element of fun to a basic work outfit.

I have been slacking a lot on dressing up lately so it was refreshing to put on a skirt and some heels. I just have to be in the right mood for it these days!

Back to Layering

sweater- banana republic (sold out) similar , similar | shirt- artizia | pants- j.crew | necklace- groopdealz.com | shoes- j.crew factory

Oh how I love cooler temperatures---that means layering! I love living in Houston and I love hot weather, but to be honest, I sometimes wish it wasn't so hot for so much of the year because it really limits what you can wear. It basically feels like you got hit with a wet sponge the moment you step outdoors when it's hot and humid here. Ick. So it's always a nice change of pace to be able to layer and not sweat when you walk from your car to the office.

I had a filming at the hospital today so I wore something I could walk comfortably in since we were filming the story on multiple floors. This giraffe sweater has become one of my favorite sweaters of all time. I can't wait to try it over a chambray shirt next time.

Hope your week has gone well so far!

It's All About the Pants

Lately I am all about pants. I used to prefer skirts and dresses, but I have seen the light and now all I want to do is wear pants all.the.time.  I think one of the reasons for this, besides extreme comfort is that pant silouettes have really changed over the last couple of years and options for work pants aren't simply a boot leg or flare. I like that all major retailers are carrying pants that have a slimmer leg and taper at the ankle.

I wore my olive colored Andie Chinos from J.Crew for the first time today and they are definitely a must-have pant. I tried them on in store but wanted to order a tall which they don't carry (for reference, I went with the 6T). They were backordered online and took about 4 weeks to arrive at my doorstep. I was able to use the 30% off discount when I purchased them from the store on backorder, so that was great, and they were definitely worth the wait. I don't own any pants in this color so it was a nice addition to my ever-growing pant collection. You heard it here first, pants may be the new J.Crew No. 2 pencil skirt (for me at least).

Please excuse the work bathroom selfie. Sometimes, it's my only option. I love the way the multi-colored tiles clash with my outfit ;)

Next on my pant wish list? These gorgeous toothpick jeans in a rich green velvet (I'm waiting for a sale).
Have you been enjoying the slimmer/more tapered pant silhouettes? Do you wear them to work or do you stick with more traditional pants?

Our Saturday...

Saturdays have been awesome lately.  Harper is sleeping through the night most nights and if she does wake up, usually putting her paci back in is all she needs to go right back to sleep (sometimes, she even grabs it and puts it back in herself!) On Saturdays she has her morning bottle and then we all sleep for another two and a half to three hours and it's GLORIOUS. Those few extra hours of sleep are such a Godsend, especially because I still wake up for my usual 5:30 a.m. pumping session even on weekends (because if I don't, I get plugged ducts, which are no beuno).  Plus, after going through the 4 month sleep regression for the past several weeks, the extra rest is truly a blessing.

Today we went on the hunt for a Halloween costume for Harps. I love the ones from Pottery Barn Kids but at $60 a pop and them being basically snowsuit level warmth in all their fuzzy glory, we weren't convinced they were the best option for this climate, even though we are just having her wear a costume for fun.

We ended up finding this cute Minnie Mouse costume at Babies R Us and we also have a pumpkin tutu costume that my MIL bought for her.  I can't wait to see how cute she looks in them!

We also picked up a Halloween onesie and bib. Everything was 40% off, so we figured for her first Halloween, why not?

Next, we went out for lunch at PF Changs (yum!) and because it was absolutely beautiful outside today I decided to wear Harper in my Ergo carrier and we walked all around Highland Village to enjoy the fresh air.
Vest- J.Crew | Cords- GAP | Flats- GAP | Tee- J.Crew

Speaking of the Ergo, I absolutely LOVE it. It's so comfortable and it distributes your baby's weight so perfectly and more into your hips so your back and shoulders don't hurt at all like with most carriers. Plus, I like that it's better for baby's hips than the ones that let their legs hang loose. Thanks to everyone that recommended it to me!

I had seen Marissa post a photo of an adorable "Happy Halloween" banner from Pottery Barn Kids on Instagram earlier in the day and I knew we would be by a PBK so I went in and picked one up to our Halloween decor (it was the last one in the store, the floor model actually). At $22 I thought it was a steal considering I would have to spend way more to actually make it myself. I LOVE making my own decor, but sometimes you end up spending more than just buying it ready-made so I try to DIY projects that save me cash. You can see a better photo of the banner on Marissa's blog, The Simple Sawn. It has big black glitter letters with beads in between.
We were also lured into Williams Sonoma today because the store smelled like fall as you walked by it. It smelled like a combination of amazing cappucinos and pumkin spice everywhere. The had a bunch of local vendors selling baked goods, coffee, etc. and we discovered a local baker from Beaumont who makes the best pumpkin bread I've ever had (ever). It's moist and delicious and has the perfect amount of spice to it...mmmmmmm...nom nom nom. Her business is The Mixing Bowl and her info is below!
When we came back home later that afternoon, there was a box on my doorstep with these lovelies (minus the Kiehl's self tanner which I picked up in the Highland Village flagship store):
Blouse, Shoes, Tights- J.Crew Factory |  Kiehl's Self Tanner (it's amazing, especially for your face!)

Also in our mailbox---these adorable knit leggings for Harper! (H&M)
Tomorrow we are going to relax and head out to a pumpkin patch somewhere local.  I hope the weather stays this amazing!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Outfits Lately...

We've got our morning routine pretty sorted out these days---but it doesn't leave much time for outfit photos so this is about the best it's going to get at this point and time...I literally snap these right before I open the door and leave the house, ready to start our journey to daycare and work.
Sweater- Banana Republic |  Skirt- J.Crew | Shoes- Nine West | Necklaces- Stella & Dot, Jane.com

Blouse- J.Crew Factory (similar) | Blazer- Artizia (similar) | Pants- J.Crew | Pumps- Banana Republic | Necklace- Tiffany & Co.

Hope you're having a wonderful week!

...And this post made me realize I wear a lot of navy. Its safe to say it's my favorite color as I seem to be attracted to all things navy and white, especially if they have stripes or polka dots. It's a sickness, really.
