Navy + Royal

Blue is one of my most loved colors. It looks good on everyone and best of all, various shades of blue from deep navy to the lightest blue all look great mixed and matched together.

This cobalt blue dress continues to be a favorite in my closet. I wore it yesterday and paired it with a navy blazer and added a pop of yellow with my Kendra Scott Rayne necklace.

Recent Purchases + Haul Video

After sharing my hair tutorial video recently on my YouTube channel, I got a lot of sweet notes and wonderful feedback about making more of an effort to keep my channel up. I promised to try and film one video per month so I shared some recent purchases today in a "haul video" (I still think that's a bit of a funny term, but it is what it is). You can watch the video, below, or simply check out the items in this post!

A (Pop) Of Yellow

Yesterday, Linh from A Beautiful Rawr left a comment on my post saying "I think having to dress up in 100 degree weather must be illegal somewhere." Haha, I think she's onto something!

This deep navy J.Crew dress that I purchased on sale right before Harper's first birthday has been a key piece in my summer wardrobe (and will transition beautifully into fall). It's not a light, airy fabric, like some of my summer dresses, but it's so easy to throw on under a blazer or cardigan and I love the shape. This is one of the dresses I had altered recently to lengthen the hem. I've shown you a few others and I'm so happy with how they turned out, because I feel so much more comfortable wearing them now.

I wore my new Kendra Scott Rayne necklace today as well as the Morgan stud earrings. I just love her pieces, they're so versatile and add a pop of color to any outfit.

I'd Rather Be in Scrubs...

Dressing for this office isn't always fun. There, I said it. Sometimes, I look at the doctors and nurses in their scrubs and I think to myself "yes." Yes to all of that.

Yes to wearing the same, comfy thing everyday and not asking myself when the last time I wore that dress was or having moments where I come to the realization that I've worn the same pair of pants three days in a row.

Yes to never wearing heels, ever, and instead having an awesome collection of brightly colored running shoes.

I definitely feel a sense of burnout sometimes coming up with new outfits. I'll have one week where I love getting dressed each morning and try to come up with new outfit combos, and others where I throw on a "uniform" and call it a day.

It hasn't helped that we are in between seasons right now in stores and nothing is really giving me that "must have it in my closet" feeling. Hopefully as new fall styles roll in, I'll be re-inspired.

Today I mixed two navy and white prints- stripes and polka dots. It's an easy way to add some playfulness to a simple outfit.

I also have to share these gorgeous studs I purchased from Kendra Scott---they're the same yellow I incorporated into my new blog design!
LOVE them! If you sign up for emails, you can get 15% off of your purchase, which is what I did. Happy shopping!

Green Luncheon Dress

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon hosted by the Blue Bird Circle, a wonderful organization that supports the peidatric neurology clinic at Texas Children's.

The luncheon featured Barbara Pierce Bush as a guest speaker. She shared with us the impact she and her fellows are making via her organization, Global Health Corps. It was a touching and inspirational speech and she was also very funny, sharing some memories of growing up and her family's time in the Whitehouse. Most of all, it was incredible to learn about all of these young adults (under 30) around the world who are passionate about global health and going to other countries to really make a difference for the people living there.
(on a side note, I loved her navy blue dress which she paired with nude open-toe heels)

The first (of many) GHC projects she shared with us was a project undetaken by two fellows in a village in Africa to prevent pregnant women who are HIV-poisitive from having HIV-positive babies. Barbara shared that of all 800 women who had babies in the village that year, all 800 babies were born HIV-negative because this team made sure they had the support and medical care they needed. Another project she talked about was a group of fellows that worked on an architecture/engeneering project to build a clinical space that controlled airflow in a different way so that tuberculosis would not spread throughout a clinic when there was a TB-positive patient. It's so inspiring to learn about a generation of young adults coming together to make a difference for children and families on a global level. I think it shows just how much young people today are committed to making an impact and real change not just in the country in which they live, but much further beyond that.

A few years ago I also got to see her father, George W. Bush, read from his book at an event at the Hobby Center called the "Celebration of Reading," that also featured several other authors.

Switching gears, I wore one of my favorite J.Crew dresses to the luncheon. The bright bright green is perfect for spring. I also wore a charcoal blazer over it and was thankful for that since the event space at the Houston Country Club was freezing.
Happy Friday!

Spring Wish List

A lot of my readers have requested that I share a spring/summer wish list and though I'll be rocking yoga pants and tanks most days during my leave once the baby comes, there are a few items I've been craving and I even made a few purchases over the weekend.

Now that I'm in my ninth month of pregnancy, I'm finally at the point where I feel like I can buy clothing again.  I tried on a few tops at J.Crew last weekend in my pre-pregnancy size and other than them not looking right because of my much larger bump, they still fit everywhere else so I think it's safe to stick with my regular size at this point.

The first item I purchased was a "love at first sight" top from J.Crew.  I checked out the new store in Highland Village and there it was, in the window, the last one left in the store. It was a beautiful bright green/emerald color with really pretty flowers on it and I didn't have anything like it in my closet.  Fortunately, J.Crew is having a sale for 25% off plus free shipping (code is SPRINGBEST) so I took the plunge and ordered it.  It probably won't fit me right now (and I don't want to stretch it out) but it will be perfect post-baby. I love the short sleeves and the back of the shirt is super-cute too.

I also purchased this pretty sunflower necklace. I liked the shape and I liked the combo of the white stones and sparkly stones as well as the gold chain. A nice/versatile piece to have for summer.

Finally, I ordered a pair of Tory Burch Caroline flats from Saks.com because they were having a 25% off Friends and Family sale.  I had wanted these for quite some time and after wearing the heck out of my Tory Burch Revas during pregnancy I figured these would be nice to have as a new momma because flats are so comfy and easy to wear. Plus, the nude color goes with so many outfits.

Other items I'm loving for spring...

This is one of the tops I tried on with my massive bump---it actually looked nice from the front but from the side it was not good because my belly made it stick out too much. It will work much better post-baby.

What's on your wish list for spring?  Let me know in the comments below!

Bright As the Sun

Hello, yellow.  As I mentioned in my post where I got to rent a dress from Houston's New for the Night, yellow is a color that has always been out of my comfort zone.

But when I saw that J.Crew's Lucille dress also came in a sunny yellow lace, I couldn't resist (I got it on sale, too!)

I attended an event last night at Houston's Urban Retreat Spa and I think the sparkly belt, chunky gold pave chain bracelet and lace on the dress made it transition seamlessly from day to night.

Blood Orange

Saturday night, H and I attended Katy's housewarming party. She and her husband moved into a beautiful home recently and we had a blast touring through it (ummm, especially her closet!)

I decided to wear the Parker dress Candice got for my birthday. I am so happy she chose this color for me---it's one I didn't yet own and I think it's so fun for summer and can even transition into fall.

And the Award Goes To...

On Thursday night, we attended the PRSA Awards so I wanted to wear a dress to the event. This is the second time I wore my Ann Taylor watercolor dress, and this time, I paired it with my bright green Zara blazer.

This blazer has been such a wonderful investment for me. I'm really finding that it works well with a lot of my tops and dresses. Speaking of Zara, the store is having their annual sale right now. I went after work tonight and it was a cluster in there. I didn't feel like waiting in line for the fitting rooms and I didn't see anything I absolutely had to have so I left Zara-less.

Now, back to the outfit:

Have a great weekend everyone!
