The Perfect [Navy] Dress

I've worn this pleated flare dress from J.Crew so many times since I purchased it about a month ago--- which tells me right off the bat that it's a great buy. You really can't go wrong with a simple, classic-shaped navy blue dress.

I wore it for the first time at Harper's birthday party and many times since then, including to my friend's rehearsal dinner, a night out with friends, to work, etc.

Today I wore it paired with a navy blazer (not shown). I think I need more dresses with this bell-shaped skirt!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th!

A Floral Blouse

When this J.Crew blouse first appeared online and in stores, I loved it so much that I bought it even though I was about 8 months pregnant. I knew I would regret not buying it and I was right! I really love the unique print and fun, bright colors on this top. I gravitate a lot towards emerald/bright greens so I knew my closet had to have this.

Though J.Crew no longer carries it, J.Crew Factory introduced it this season (yay!) and it can be yours for just $37 (on sale!) I think this top pairs well with both prints and solids, so pretty versatile!

Skirts with Bows

The lovely weather continues in Houston and that means I've been motivated to rediscover some pieces I haven't worn in quite some time.

This Banana Republic bow skirt is one of them. I just love the bow and slit detail and the length is perfect for the office. I used to hate wearing flats with dresses and skirts but I've been digging the look lately. Definitely one of my favorite buys this year!
skirt- banana republic (this is a beautiful option, and this one, love this cobalt floral print and this DVF) |  shirt- j.crew  | necklace- stella & dot, ?  | blazer- artizia  | shoes- gap (love these steve madden ones)
Happy Thursday!

Skirting It

It's getting to that temperature in Houston where when you get into your car after work, you have to blast the AC at maximum levels because your car has been baking in the sun all day. But I said I was looking forward to warmer weather, so no complaints here!

Today I wore this beautiful full skirt from Madewell. It's comfortable and simple, yet has a semi-bold pattern to keep things interesting (though it would be beautiful in a solid color as well).  Madewell doesn't sell this skirt anymore, but here's a similar one and this one is beautiful as well.
tee- SixTwenty ?  | skirt- madewell  | shoes- gap (similar, similar)  | necklace- ? Stella & Dot (similar for less than $20 and also love this one

If you've never heard of Six Twenty, check them out. They make beautiful basics with incredibly soft and high-quality materials that wash well---and it's all made in the USA (in sunny California). I've had this v-neck tee since last summer and wear it all the time. It's fitted (but not too tight) and the material is a quality opaque one. Absolutely love it!

A Royal Dress

dress- banana republic (old, but this one is nearly identical, also from BR!)  | jacket- zara  | shoes- nine west  | necklace- stella & dot

My mom bought this royal blue dress for me when she was visiting from Canada when Harper was just a few weeks old. I love it. It's a fun, bold color and has a fuller skirt which is always flattering (especially so when I tried it on at four weeks postpartum!)

The dresses in my closet haven't gotten much play this fall and winter because a lot of them are side-zip or pullover dresses and I can't pump in them. This one, however, is perfect because it zips up the back so it's easy to slip just the top portion off. I also own this dress in a striped pattern that's navy and white. For 40% off, I decided I liked it enough to get both!

I'm looking forward to wearing more skirts and dresses now that bare-leg weather is here. I need to buy some new work dresses in lightweight, breatheable fabrics for summer that can also be worn with flatsstay tuned for my finds!

Outfits...

I wore my new BR bow skirt this week and I think I'm in love. Unfortunately, I was playing on the floor with Harper when I got home from work and when I spread my legs a bit to stand up, the front slit split and now I have to get it fixed---but I absolutely love it and can't wait to wear it again when it's all sewn up (I'd do it myself but I'm not a good enough sewer to where I could make it so the thread doesn't show.
tee- j.crew | skirt- banana republic | necklace- stella and dot, c/o |
blazer- aritzia |shoes- gap

I love that this skirt can be worn with flats. As I mentioned before, I'm all about flats these days. I still wear heels, but I would say three out of five work days, I'm wearing flats. This week, I don't think I wore heels once.
shirt- old navy | vest- j.crew(on sale!) | pants- banana republic | shoes- gap (on sale!)

This was my casual Friday outfit. No meetings today so I dressed down.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Outfits Lately...

We've got our morning routine pretty sorted out these days---but it doesn't leave much time for outfit photos so this is about the best it's going to get at this point and time...I literally snap these right before I open the door and leave the house, ready to start our journey to daycare and work.
Sweater- Banana Republic |  Skirt- J.Crew | Shoes- Nine West | Necklaces- Stella & Dot, Jane.com
Blouse- J.Crew (similar, really love this one too!) | Pants- J.Crew | Necklaces- Stella & Dot, Tiffany & Co. | Shoes- Clarks Purity Snow wedges, c/o
Blouse- J.Crew Factory (similar) | Blazer- Artizia (similar) | Pants- J.Crew | Pumps- Banana Republic | Necklace- Tiffany & Co.

Hope you're having a wonderful week!

...And this post made me realize I wear a lot of navy. Its safe to say it's my favorite color as I seem to be attracted to all things navy and white, especially if they have stripes or polka dots. It's a sickness, really.

Ruched

I've talked about this in my weekly pregnancy updates, but aside from pants, I haven't been wearing a lot of maternity clothes.  I'm fortunate to have a lot of looser tops in my existing wardrobe so a lot of the outfits I'm posting aren't anything new if you've been reading my blog for awhile---they just fit differently now because of my shape and it's fun to document that.

I think during a first pregnancy buying maternity clothes can be very exciting.  I've definitely checked out Motherhood Maternity, A Pea in the Pod and GAP's maternity selections, but the truth is, I didn't really want to spend a ton of money buying new clothes that I would only wear for a short period of time.

I actually know several bloggers who also transitioned a lot of their existing wardrobe into their maternity wear, so it was fun to follow their pregnancies and see how they were styling some of the items that they wore pre-pregnancy.

Obviously I'll eventually get to the point where I will need maternity clothes, so I realize that I'll have to transition into the pieces my co-worker generously passed along to me, but until then, I've been enjoying experimenting with the pieces already in my closet.

One of those pieces is this dress I got at Banana Republic.  I actually purchased it early into my pregnancy anticipating that I'd be able to wear it as my belly grows because it has this great ruching and is super stretchy---and long---which is key when your belly makes everything shorter.

It's such a simple piece and I've enjoyed wearing it through all three trimesters.

Stella & Dot Giveaway- Jewels for Spring!

I've always been a fan of Stella & Dot jewelry.  The pieces are pretty, trendy and high-quality. Many of the pieces I have from the line are some of my most-worn and beloved pieces (you can see them in my holiday wish list post here).

One my my readers, Alyssa, generously offered to host a Stella & Dot giveaway on my blog.  She sent me the gorgeous Bianca Tassel Necklace to style...and if you've been following my outfit posts on my blog and on Instagram, you know I've been wearing the heck out of this beauty!

I love that it combines different links and textures. It's overall just a lovely, bold statement piece---and it works perfectly to add pop to an all-black outfit---but looks equally as fab with brights (which I can't wait to start wearing again as the weather warms up).

For those of you still dealing with the frigid cold front, this giveaway will be a welcome "hello" to Spring--- Alyssa is giving away one of Stella & Dot's new Julep bangles--they are perfect to add to any arm party and if you win, you can pick the color of your choice (I love the pink and green!)

All you have to do is enter via Rafflecopter below!  There are two ways to enter:

1) visit www.stelladot.com/alyssawagner and leave me a comment here telling me what your favorite piece is

2) Like Alyssa's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/shopwithalyssa

Good luck and thank you for entering---and major thanks to Alyssa for hosting!

A New Fall Neutral

This burgundy skirt from Target was a steal at $22---and I'm loving the way it mixes with various prints and color combos. It's almost like a neutral for fall.

I decided to add a tiny polka-dot blouse and a striped blazer in the same colors.  If you're scared to mix prints, try using prints in the same color family to ease into the trend.

Skirt- Target- mine is a size 6, for reference (buy it here!)
Belt- J.Crew (similar)
Blazer- Express (similar, similar)
Shoes- Zara (buy them here)

Hope everyone has a great week and thank you for your patience as I was battling a virus this weekend. I am finally feeling like myself again :)

Striped Blouse For the Win & We Got a New Car!

I blogged about how much I love stripes last week and when I saw this gorgeous striped blouse on fellow blogger and teacher extraordinaire Tara from Mix and Match Fashion, I just had to have it...plus, it was 50% off!

...And um, oh yeah, we got a new car on Monday!

Yay!  It's a 2013 Ford Explorer.

H hasn't gotten a new car in 12 years so we are so excited for this new addition! It is his car but of course I will be able to drive it on weekends :)

Pleats, Please

Today I wore my Banana Republic accordian pleat skirt and it continues to be one of my favorite new pieces.  You can see how I styled it previously in my Banana Republic Desk to Dinner post.

Even though it is more of an A-line shape, it wears just as well as a classic pencil skirt and is just as versatile.  Fuller skirts with pleating also have a sort of feminine and flirty feeling to them and they're a nice option if you're looking to step outside of the pencil skirt box.

Skirt- Banana Republic (buy it here!
this one fits large so size down, mine is a small & I could have gotten XS)
