Recent Purchases...

Hello and happy Thursday!

Megan texted me from Maine to tell me that I absolutely had to try Urban Decay's new Perversion mascara as well as Anastasia's new Dipbrow pomade tout de suite. We tend to like the same kinds of makeup products, so I can't wait to try these!

|  URBAN DECAY Perversion Mascara & Deluxe Subversion Prime  |

I also picked up a new bottle of my beloved Ojon shampoo. It looks like they changed the packaging recently and when I got to the store I thought they had discontinued it and panicked (for a moment).

My Nine West Martina heels are the most comfortable pair I own, so they get worn most often (and they go with almost everything!)  Needless to say, I was in dire need of a new pair after nearly three years of wear. They're my absolute favorite nude heels and you can bet I'll be purchasing them for years to come.

And last, but definitely not least, are these absolutely adorable bows from HappinessLivesHere. They're fantastic quality and the size is perfect for Harper's pony tails. She wears clip-in bows way more often than headbands now and these come with great non-slip grips!

(mine were a custom set of different patterns I liked!)
Thank you so much for sending these Jackie! I absolutely love them.

Have a great night everyone :)

PS- I forgot to mention these sweet prints I purchased from Printstagr.am! I used these to make a photo wall/collage as well as a banner for Harper's first birthday and I currently use the prints to decorate my cube at work. I got a new set recently since I hadn't ordered in three months!

Wednesdays in White

Thank you for all of your feedback on getting back to the DSLR photos! Kevin has been a champ dealing with taking these every morning while holding Harper on his hip, so if there's anyone to thank for no more mirror photos, it's him!

I pretty much compulsively buy white dresses and this J.Crew bow-back dress from a couple of years ago is a favorite. I paired it with a navy blue cardigan (not shown) when I got to the office.

The one thing that's tricky about this dress is that the fabric wrinkles like crazy. It's a cotton linen-ish fabric. I always have 20 or 30 extra minutes in the morning before we leave the house, so I just get on the floor in my work clothes with Harper so we can have a little quality time before we have to start our commute. This isn't ideal for the outfit situation, but I'd rather have those moments than a perfect-looking dress.

Misty Mornings

If the weather forecast and temperature gauge in your car haven't convinced you that it's too hot outside, behold today's photos.

I had to deepen the contrast in them in iPhoto because as you can imagine, the entire lens fogged right up in the morning humidityand I didn't notice until after we took them. Sigh.

Getting dressed for the office in this weather is not fun, and yes, I plan to complain about it until the weather is at the very least in the low 80's.

Foggy photos aside, I must profess my love for these Banana Republic Adelia heels that I purchased last week. I just love they way they are cut and they're pretty comfortable. They may need a couple of weeks of breaking-in, but I would say they're a 7/10 on the comfort scale right out of the box.
shirt-  artizia  (similar- comes in tall + petite) |  skirt-  zara (old) similar, similar (pricier but gorgeous) |  shoes- banana republic  |  sunglasses- gucci  |  watch- michael kors
I first spotted the heels in this online preview for the new Sloan skinny pants and I immediately noticed how flattering they looked. I happened to see them in store and they had my size, so I purchased the midnight blue ones.
They're definitely a must-have pump for fall! I got mine for 40% off during last week's promo, but they have promos almost every week so I would add them to your cart! It looks like sizes in midnight blue and black are going fast.

Have a happy week!

Harper's One Year Photos!

The morning of our last day in Toronto (just a few hours before we headed to the airport to catch our flight), Adam came over to capture some shots of Harper. I've known Adam for over a decade, he is one of my cousin's closest friends and we spent a lot of time together growing up.

I was delighted to learn that Adam was growing his photography business, Adam Biesenthal Photography, and I asked him to come and snap some photos of Harper---and he showed up with coffee, so that's automatically an A+.

You may have recently heard of Adam because a wedding photo he took with Jeff Goldblum and a wedding party running from a dinosaur went viral.

I'm so happy with these sweet photos of Harper. Our conditions weren't ideal (she was due for a nap/a little cranky and the sun was super bright) but he was able to capture her sweetness and personality with the 20 or so minutes he shot for.

Here are some of my favorite shots:
dress- baby gap (love this one)
flower crown- custom piece by willow crowns

After sharing my hair tutorial video recently on my YouTube channel, I got a lot of sweet notes and wonderful feedback about making more of an effort to keep my channel up. I promised to try and film one video per month so I shared some recent purchases today in a "haul video" (I still think that's a bit of a funny term, but it is what it is). You can watch the video, below, or simply check out the items in this post!

Harper's Reads: Favorite Books for Toddlers

As a child and teen, I loved to read. Going to the library was one of my most favorite hobbies (serious nerd alertit was walking distance from our house!) Maybe it was the only child in me---craving fun, imagination and adventure with every turn of the page. I would often read for hours on end and stay up late or wake up early just to finish those last chapters. If you grew up at the same time as me, you probably read Sweet Valley High, Babysitter's Club, Lurlene McDaniel books, R.L. Stein's "Fear Street" series and many, many others (not to mention books assigned at school!) I would also often go to the library and read books on whichever topic I happened to be "into" at the time. One time, I checked out like 15 books about dollhouses, the history of dollhouses, how to make dollhouse furniture, etc. I still don't know how I carried them all home.

I do a lot of reading nowadays--- tons of news articles (online and off), medical studies (for work), other work-related reading and of course, blogs, for fun. I don't read actual books for pleasure anymore. It's a shame because it was one of my favorite activities, but I always find other things I would rather be doingor that need to get done (like seven loads of laundry and vacuuming endless grains of quinoa off of my hardwoods when Harper decides she's "all done"). I did start to read one book recently, recommended by my nutritionist, but I'll save that for another post.

When I was pregnant, I remember building Harper's library with old classics and new books and I couldn't wait to read to her. Though I still don't make the time for myself to read, I've enjoyed bonding through reading with Harper. I'm the type of reader who gets pretty "into it" with silly voices for different characters or parts of a book and as much enthusiasm as I can muster after working all day or before my morning coffee on the weekend.

Harper wasn't interested much in being read to (and wouldn't sit still) when she was younger. I seriously thought I was doing it wrong or something. I even remember asking on a message board at what age other mom's babies started to be interested in books. There, I realized that it was totally normal for my 4 month old not to care about or pay attention to books, but rather, enjoy chewing them. The more you know...

But at about 9 months or so, she started to pay attention to books and enjoyed them. By 10 months she downright loved them.

Now, she's obsessed with being read to. We spend a lot of time reading books, pointing things out in them, seeing if she can identify certain animals or items on pages. It's a fun way for us to spend time together and she loves it so much that she brings us book after book---and now, we can even ask her to bring us a certain book in a pile and 95% of the time she brings the right one.

Reading is even part of our morning routine---after Kevin finishes breakfast with Harper while I finish getting ready, she sits in his lap and they read together until I come downstairs. It's often a favorite moment of mine to see her sweet face look up at me as she hears me come down the stairs while they read.

We read a lot of the same books over and over and have too many to count---but I'm sharing some of Harper's favorites below!
This is actually a monthly subscription that Kevin's parents got for Harper and she LOVES these books. I love them too because there are lots of learning opportunities and a good mix of stories, songs and "can you find it" type pages. Highly recommend these!
I love how dramatic Olivia is and the illustrations are fun. The story always makes me laugh at the end.
These are classics- my favorite is Cat in the Hat and Harper loves all of the rhyming in this one. It's just a fun story overall.
Harper loves to make the animal noises of the animals in the first book and she loves to unveil the characters in the Sophie peek-a-boo book.
Giraffes Can't Dance  |  Brown Bear Brown Bear
Giraffes can't dance is one of my all time favorite children's books. The rhyming is SO fun and the story is sweet. Brown Bear Brown Bear is one of Harper's favorites---I love the last page where we can practice identifying all of the different animals by asking her to "find the purple cat" etc...
This is a book I remember from my own childhood---a cute story with fun illustrations.
I just love both of these books--- the first is a very cute story and we always touch and count the baby's fingers and toes--- and the second is a classic that also makes me emotional. Harper likes it when the baby throws things into the toilet, go figure.
This book has the most stunning illustrations. I often think of how pretty they'd look framed in a nursery. Fun story too!
 Commotion in the Ocean
I bought this because it's the same author as Giraffes Can't Dance--- it's not as good as that book, but it's still very good and has lots of different fish and sea creatures to learn about with great little rhymes.
Goodnight Houston  |  Go to Sleep, My Love  |  Goodnight Moon
I love all of these sleeptime books. I truly think every baby should have all three---but check first if they have a "Goodnight (Your City)" because it probably exists! Go to Sleep, My Love is just beautifully written.
I cry everytime I read the last page of this book. Sigh. It's a must-have.

What are your toddler's favorite books?!
