My Hair Routine + No Heat Styling

Happy Monday!  I'm starting this week off with a video of my hair routine! I was getting a lot of requests to show how I style it in between washings, and I finally sat down and filmed every day last week from Thursday through Sunday.

The video is way too long and I repeat myself constantly (sorry!) but it will give you an idea of how I style my hair (with no heat) on days 3 and 4 of my routine. You can read all about my hair washing routine here. I still wash it twice a week like before, but I've started to use no heat on days 3 and 4 of my routine.

I didn't want to spend time on weekends styling my hair so I found a system that works for me to make it look styled when it hasn't been. The big disclaimer here is that this may not work for every hair type. I have thin hair, but a lot of it and I have long hair that has a natural wavy texture and holds curl very well. If you have a similar hair type to mine, this may work very well for you. You never know until you try!

I took the pictures below on Sunday (my "4th day hair") which you'll see at the end of the video.
I hope you enjoy the video and please let me know if you have any questions I didn't go over.

Have a great week!

Creating A "Pretty Little Liars" Inspired Hairstyle

Experimenting with new hair styles has me convinced that I need to try them more often.  Every time I switch it up a little, I get lots of nice feedback from co-workers who are used to my same-old look everyday. It's so easy to get stuck in that rut of never trying something different because it's easier to just go on auto-pilot in the mornings and style your hair the couple of ways you always do.  That's why I'm glad someone's taken all of the guesswork out of creating these styles so they're easy enough for the average non-hair pro to achieve.

Today's style is something ideal for a date night or other special occassion.  It's not too fussy, totally easy to do (it took me way less time than the first hairstyle I tried) and it's overall just a nice, soft, voluminous look.

I followed the tutorial above by the lovely It's Judy Time and I absolutely loved the results.  The only difference is that I curled my hair instead of keeping it straight.  I created this style on third day hair, so having a little curl gave me extra volume to work with and also really brought out my newly touched-up ombre color.

The thing I love most about this style is the volume it offers at the crown. It really sets it apart from an everyday style, but it's not so fancy that you can't wear it to work, Iike I am today. You also have the option to middle or side-part this style, but I chose a middle part since that's more my day-to-day look. It might be fun to try a side part with the front pieces for a night out.

All you'll need to recreate this look is a teasing comb, some bobby pins, a brush and if you want curls like me, a curling iron and some hairspray.

Here's how it turned out:

What do you think of this style?  Check out It's Judy Time's video above for a step-by-step tutorial of how to achieve this look---weather your hair is straight or wavy!  I promise this one is super easy and quick---and best of all, I can totally see it working on hair that's been at the beach all day and is full of texture---so it's perfect for summer, which is just around the corner (even though in some parts of the country it doesn't feel like it quite yet!) Wishing you all a great week!

Emily from The Jacksons Shares Her Beauty Routine

So many of you ladies enjoyed Emily's guest post on how to have style when you're a mom that I asked her to come back and tell us a little about her beauty routine. Please welcome Emily from The Jacksons, as she shares her favorite beauty products and insights into her daily routine.

What is your beauty philosophy?  Do you like to try new looks a lot or do you tend to stick with a signature look?
I believe that all women are beautiful. I also believe that makeup should enhance your natural beauty, not cover it up. Basically, makeup shouldnt be taken too seriously.  With my makeup I tend stick to the same basic products. I figure if something is working, dont change it. I like to play with my lip color and eye shadow depending on the occasion. For a formal occasion I love adding lashes.  They add a bit of glamour without being over the top.
What is your skincare routine like, morning and night?
I wash my face morning and night with THE best facial cleanser around. Its called Vital C and it has changed my life since I started using it. After I wash my face I use the Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer.

What are your favorite makeup products and what products do you use daily?
  • Bobbi Brown bronzer
  • YSL highlighter pen
  • MAC duo fiber face brush for foundation
You have really beautiful hair!  How do you style it?
Thanks! I love my current style because it is so easy and only takes me about ten minutes start to finish. I just blow dry it, not any special way, and then I curl it with a 1.5 inch size curling iron. I will do a tutorial on my blog on Friday on how I curl my hair so stay tuned!

What are your favorite hair styling products and shampoos/conditioners?
  • Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Pureology Miracle Filler

When you are short on time, what's your go-to look to look polished but in less time?
If I am in a rush I throw my hair in a ponytail, add mascara and my YLS sheer candy lip balm (#9) and Im off.

Thank you for sharing some of your beauty tips and tricks Emily!  You can go visit Emily over on her blog to follow her entire beauty series this week!
