Sunday Brunch...

Today I attended a special brunch hosted by Angeli from Six Twenty, a new website that's the ultimate destination for designer quality essentials without the middleman mark-up. Six Twenty offers a carefully crafted selection of womens basics, featuring high quality, chic essentials, available year-round.

It was the first time I had seen a lot of the girls from our brunch group in quite some time so it was fun to get together and catch up over delicious food.

I ended up wearing my GAP skinnies with a top I discovered on Andee's blog, the The HONEYBEE. Andee has such a great eye for finds at Forever 21 so when she posted a photo of this top I knew I had to order it!

I layered it over a tank and paired it with some necklaces and wedges. Being at home with Harper and wearing flip-flops or just having bare feet all day has seriously affected my ability to maneuver around in heels. I almost tripped/fell/toppled over several times today. Oh boy. I think I need to practice. Maybe it was just the wedges though, I tend to do better with pumps.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Before I go, if you're local, check out the White Hot event my friend Magen is producing on August 3rd!

Sunday Brunching

This Sunday, a group of us blogger gals got together for some brunch at Cuchara Restaurant. I can't say I loved the food and tiny menu, but the amazing company more than made up for it.

From left- Bethany, Jamie, Magen, Mishelle, Meg (with baby Kennedy) and moi.

Also, I got to look at this adorable face all afternoon:

Kennedy is seriously the best baby.  She was so good the entire time and eats like a champion.  Yay for awesome babies!

It was a little cooler in Houston today (thank God) so I opted for dark jeans, a dress shirt and cardigan for warmth.  Of course I had to add a bubble necklace for good measure.

It was SO windy when we shot these. Hello crazy hair!

Shorts That Go the Distance

My bright purple J.Crew chino shorts are arguably one of my best summer purchases. They're comfy, versatile and fun.  So fun, that I seem to live in them on weekends.  Today was no exception. I met with Magen, Monica and Mishelle (whoa, that's a whole lotta "Ms") for brunch at Tiny Boxwoods. If you haven't been there, it's amazing! I had the chipotle steak salad and their cinnamon coffee is to die for. I plan to sprinkle cinnamon in my coffee forever now. Also, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Rustic meets glam meets urban garden. It truly feels like an escape from the city with it's perfectly manicured gardens and wicker chairs. Sigh. I just want to hang out there for hours (we kind of did, haha).

I chose my trusty Zara tunic to pair with my shorts, and I sweat right through that darn blouse, but it looked pretty cute. I think I would have sweat no matter what I wore though, it was THAT hot and humid here today. I was wearing workout clothes as I ran errands later in the day and the sweating continued. Ick.

New for the Night

I felt like a pretty lucky gal when I was invited by Houston-based boutique New for the Night to be part of their launch party.

Dresses+champagne+good company= a recipe for success.  Dreamed up and brought to fruition by Houston's Brittany Sakowitz,
New for the Night offers designer dresses for rent for any occasion.  Forget dropping hundreds of dollars for a dress you'll wear just a few times (or once!) and say hello to gorgeous designer frocks for a fraction of the price.

The best part---New for the Night has a showroom (located in the Kirby/Westheimer area, near West Ave.) so you can check out the latest dresses and try them on before committing.

Another fab idea? Having your bridesmaids rent their dresses---they'll have a gorgeous designer dress to wear that won't end up stashed at the back of their closet, never to see the light of day again (and you'll also be the awesome bride that saved them money and gave them the chance to wear a more stylish frock compared to typical bridesmaid attire).

I visited the New for the Night boutique on Monday to pick out my dress and I selected a fun, bright yellow dress by Rebecca Taylor with a sweetheart neckline and pockets on the front. The color was completely out of my comfort zone and a total departure for me but the silhouette was familiar, which made the dress comfortable to wear.

You can check out photos from the launch party on CultureMap, one of the event's sponsors (Houston magazine also sponsored the event).

(thank you to Annina from Cinched at the Waist for this photo)

I also took my own photos of the festive frock--- these were taken at 10:30 at night, so keep in mind the lighting wasn't ideal, the dress was a bit wrinkled... and, well, let's not even talk about my makeup by the end of the night. But the dress was just too pretty for me not to take photos when I got home.
