ALMAY Color + Care� Liquid Lip Balm


I'm pretty picky about lip products and prefer glosses that deliver hydration and conditioning in addition to color because I tend to have dry lips that occasionally peel (and, okay, sometimes I bite my lip a bit so I need something that helps keep them supple). Plus, if you're going to put something on your lips to enhance their color, you might as well get the additional benefit of treating them as well.

I recently got to test out ALMAY'S Color + Care� Liquid Lip Balm and it's the perfect harmony of soft, sheer color and intense moisture.  When I applied it, my husband said my lips looked "extra glossy." I'll take that!

The three colors I tried are from left-right: Nudetrients, Rosy Lipped and Pink Pout. I like the packaging of these glosses- simple and clean- small enough to fit into a clutch but large enough to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Nudetrients is a perfect pinky-nude color that would be great for everyday wear or paired with a smoky eye for an evening look.  
Rosy Lipped is a color I didn't love when I swatched it, but on the lips, it was actually my favorite of the three. It's one of those "your lips, but better" colors. If you were to get one gloss from this collection, this is the color I recommend because I can see it working for many skin tones and it simply enhances your own lip color while making lips look healthy and glossy.

The third color, Pink Pout, was my second favorite of the trio.  I got so much great feedback the last time I wore a bright lip color (in fact, many of you told me I should do bright lips everyday!) and this gloss delivered a sheer bright pink wash of color that was buildable.  I think it gave my skin an extra punch and I love that it was still sheer enough to stay in my comfort level. Of all the bright lip colors I own, I think this one is probably the one I'd reach for most often since it's bright, but not intimidatingly so.

Harper: Two Months Old!

Time is passing by way too quickly. I have to be honest and say that I am dreading going back to work. Not because I don't love my job...but because I've gotten too used to waking up to this gorgeous face and spending my days caring for her...watching her grow...watching her develop. 

It's going to be hard to leave her in just a few weeks. I'm going to miss her smiles and feeding her and changing her and snuggling her. I've never in my life really considered staying at home and don't plan to...but being at home with her has definitely given me some pause where I momentarily contemplated what it might be like to be home with her all the time.

Right now I'm just trying to soak in the moments with her and sometimes, let's be honest, I totally stare at her as she sleeps. And I take pictures...so many pictures. I am officially "that mom" on Facebook and Instagram but you know what? I totally own it.

Here are Harper's two month updates and photos:
 

Weight: At her last pediatrician's appointment where she got her first shots, she weighed just over 11 lbs!

Health: Harper has been doing great!  We had a few health/weight gain scares in the first few weeks, but those seem to have resolved. 

Sleep:  We are so lucky, Harper sleeps a lot. She naps between almost all of her bottles, sometimes for 2-2.5 hours at a time.  She sleeps about 6 hours through most nights and has even gone for 8 hours once! However, I am waking up twice to pump to keep my supply up, so I do have days where I'm tired. But hey, it comes with being a new mamma! I feel really fortunate that she sleeps so much because it allows me to get things done around the house, wash her bottles and my pumping parts (my husband does them in the morning and I wash them during the day) and also gives me a little time for myself- to blog, nap, relax, whatever. I realize not every new mom gets that "me" time because some babies don't nap a lot, so I know how lucky I am. Hopefully it will last!

Social: Since she's been vaccinated, we've taken Harper out to a few places and it's been fun! We are also setting up baby playdates and she will get to meet my friend's twins this week, our babies are just 10 days apart!

Diet: Harper is getting 80-90% expressed breast milk most days. We supplement with formula as needed, but most of the time it's breast milk. I'm going to update my breastfeeding story soon, but right now I am almost exclusively pumping, though I may nurse her once or twice some days.  Pumping is what's working for us right now and I'm fortunate to have a good supply that way, however, I love the closeness of nursing her so I still try to do that for some of her feeds.

Clothes: We skipped right past the newborn sized clothes and pretty much did 0-3 from the very start. She's also fitting into 3 and some 3-6 month clothing. It really depends on the brand.

Crying: Harper only cries if she is hungry and sometimes right when you start to change her diaper (not every time). Recently, she started crying during some of her feeds and we suspect it's gas related or just general fussiness. She will sometimes drink her bottle amazingly and other times she cries during the entire bottle. Burping her, walking around with her and taking breaks during the feed seem to help...but sometimes she's just inconsolable...and I know she's hungry because it's time for her to eat again. It breaks my heart when she cries during her feeds. If you mammas have any tips, please let me know!

Likes: Harper likes naps, her swing, Jacques the Peacock, her Skip Hop Activity Gym, naps on daddy's chest and morning snuggles. She also loves her MAM pacis. They calm her right down. She also LOVES baths to the point where I feel like she actually looks forward to them every night. Dislikes- when the bath comes to an end. But she looks so darn cute in her bunny towel that it's one of my favorite parts to wrap her in it!

Postpartum: I've had so many wonderful comments and emails wishing me well after my D&C surgery for placenta acreta and I really appreciate it.  I am feeling good now and pretty much back to normal. Of course I'm still tired, but that's a new mom thing, not related to postpartum recovery.

I definitely had some bouts of anxiety during the last few weeks but I feel like it's getting better and better each day.  I still worry about her health and overall wellness and happiness, but I think all new moms worry. I just try to remind myself to take it easy and to cherish every moment with her.

Milestones: Month two has been so amazing because it's when Harper started to really develop more. She smiles and coos now, turns when she hears one of our voices and is overall more alert. She still sleeps a lot, which we are thankful for, but we really get to experience her more now that she's more alert. She also has better head control and sometimes swats at her toys. She chews on her hands sometimes and pulls at my hair (which is why I wear it up most of the time!)

I remember the first time she smiled at me when she woke up one morning (she had smiled before that, but this moment felt extra special). I finally felt like she really "knew" me and was happy to see me. I know that sounds kind of odd, but I'm sure many new moms can relate---seeing your baby respond to you is really special and makes you feel so bonded.
I kind of wish we would have taken these shots at the beginning of the shoot...haha she was not happy at the end!

Two Month Favorites!

It's hard to believe how quickly time is passing by. The other day I was going through my iPhone camera roll just marveling at how tiny Harper was when she was born and today I look over to see my beautiful, growing girl.  Below is a list of items I've been loving for Harper lately...

Aiden & Anais Bibs
I don't think a better bib exists!  Things I love about them---super soft material, gorgeous colors and designs, they're are super large and they have snap closures instead of velcro. These bibs are the perfect size and can deal with a lot of spit up. The softness makes them easy to use to wipe your baby's face/mouth during feedings. I also love that they come in both the muslin and bamboo fabrics.

Dr. Brown's 4 oz Bottles
Thank you Dr. Brown! Harper has been having major gas issues and these bottles seem to help a bit. She also seems to like the nipple on them. The bottles are designed to eliminate air bubbles in milk and formula and avoid nipple collapse so that the milk flows more like it would from the breast.

Fisher Price My Little Lamb Swing
Now that Harper has better head control, we've been using her swing and she loves it. She is happy in it whether she's awake or sleeping (sometimes it lulls her to sleep).  I also like that it plays music. We only use it on the lowest speed so far. I love that I can put her in there and get things done around the house while she naps.

Pottery Barn Kids Hooded Towels
Not only are these towels absolutely adorable, but they are great for when baby gets out of the bath because you just wrap them like a little burrito and cuddle them as they look like an adorable little baby animal. Precious.

Seventh Generation Bottle & Dish Soap
I was looking for a soap I could wash baby bottles and pumping parts with and I've always trusted the Seventh Generation brand because they're known for having more natural products. This dish/bottle soap is awesome, rinses clean and feels gentle/doesn't have a heavy scent.

Skip Hop Activity Gym/Mat
Harper is getting better with her tummy time and we use this play mat s few times a day. I love that it comes with a mini half-moon pillow to help prop baby and the colors are fun and vibrant. I think this mat will be great as she's older too as there are so many textures and "touch and feel" items.

Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads
Sometimes I have a random letdown before I'm due to pump again so these nursing pads have been a savior for my clothing. I mean really, I'm just wearing v-neck tees around the house all day, but it's one less thing to worry about and it helps keep the nipple area dry which is important. I also plan to use these when I return to work.

Little Tummy's Gas Relief Drops
Poor Harper has been having some gas issues. It's the only thing that really makes her scream and it breaks.my.heart. I started to use these gas drops and they seem to help clam her tummy a bit.

Changing Pad Liners
Absolutely essential so you don't have to constantly wash you changing pad cover. I go through so many of these, baby diapers are...complex. Haha.

Lamaze's Jacques the Peacock
This was recommended by Jessica in her monthly favorites and Harper loves it. The back side has black and white patterns and she likes to look at it. She also recently started swatting at it.

Family Brunch

On Saturday, we took Harper out for her first "official" outing. Kevin and I ate lunch at Hungry's in Rice Village and then we walked around for a bit with Harper in her stroller. Unfortunately, it had just rained and it was so humid, sticky and hot outside that we couldn't really stay out for very long because it was uncomfortable.  Harper slept most of the time but she was definitely looking around a lot while we were at lunch since she's not used to seeing so many people in one place!

Today, we went out for brunch with Kevin's parents and his sister who is visiting from Oklahoma.  It was so fun to be with family and enjoy eggs Benedict again since I couldn't eat it while pregnant (the hollandaise sauce contains raw eggs).

After brunch we took some family photos. I love the way they turned out and the shoot took less than 10 minutes. I'm so happy to have these photos as memories.

Harper's Newborn Photo Album

I used TinyPrints.com to create Harper's birth announcements, so when Shutterfly (owned by TinyPrints) was offering a special on their photo books I jumped at the chance to create one.

I selected the "Baby Black & White" style album which has a chalkboard theme like our birth announcements. I love the little embellishments you can add with these books! Such a fun way to style your photos.

Here is how our book turned out:
I am really pleased with the quality and overall look of the final product!  Next, I'm going on the hunt for frames I love so we can create a gallery wall between our master bedroom and the nursery. I want to find the frames first so I know what size to print the photos.

Do you make albums like the one I created above or do you have photos printed and then insert them into an album? Personally I prefer albums that you can create digitally because they look so polished and you can add personal touches, change the layout, add text, basically anything!
